With the best intentions in the world, this website was meant to have been launched much earlier, with a lot of work put in for it to have appeared in March 2020. But best intentions counted from nothing. In late February, it was already clear that the coronavirus would become a pandemic and the UK like other countries would be affected. All kinds of things followed, including a personal 12 week minimum period of not going out nor having contact with anyone, with this in fact still continuing. It also encompassed a massive reorganisation of teaching at the University of Edinburgh, both of courses then still underway, and those for the start of the academic year in September 2020. And also time began to do strange things, for although having apparently endless time, there seemed in practice to be no time at all and instead endless washing and cleaning and equally endless minutiae of teaching reorganisation and administration. March became April became May became June. The website was launched on 1 July. Instead of an actual launch with a meeting and slideshow with a video presentation and many people, instead there was an email announcement. These are the times.
