Bhisho Massacre Memorial, near King William’s Town, Eastern Cape
In September 1992, about 80–100,000 people marched on Bhisho calling for the dismantling of the Ciskei ‘homeland’. The Ciskei Defence Force opened fire, killing 28 people and wounding many more. The monument was dedicated in 1997.
